Texas Senate passed a law that bans all foreign codes of law from being exercised in the state including sharia law reports CBN News.
The move has been heavily condemned by pro-Muslim groups. The Center for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) dubbed it “anti-sharia,” and has called for state wide protests.
Texas lawmakers feel that sharia law violates constitutional rights of Americans as it allows whippings, canings, child marriages and honor killings.
The Texas Foreign Law Procedural Protection Act (HB45) will allow only American laws to be used in the courts and was approved by the House on May 6th and passed by the Senate on May 22nd. It now awaits Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature to become law.
Many states have passed similar legislations to ban implementation of Sharia law in their courts including Alabama. Arkansas and Florida.
